It’s hard to get a screenshot of all the work I’ve done while at Yousician, but here are a few projects I’m proud of.

At the end of 2020, we worked with Disney/Pixar for a collab with the new movie “Soul”. Working with Disney/Pixar (or someone as big as them) was something I’d never imagined. The “Soul” project was our pilot for artist collabs so it was a great experience to be the lead designer on the project.

I also had a chance to spend some time updating the UI for some of the settings pages. Often overlooked in apps, I was lucky to get the chance to change a few things while I could. With the project to scale the app for desktop users, I used this time to update components and write rules for how components are used in the future. The developer who worked on the project with me was able to tidy up the code as well and create global components for future use.

Also included are specs and user flows. It’s really important to think about the user when it comes to app design. Every flow needs to be considered: Are they a new user? A returning user? An existing user? A true beginner or a false beginner? An advanced player or someone who has never picked up a guitar? Also, leaving detailed specs for the developers is always a time saver. We use Figma almost exclusively now, but in the past, we’ve used Abstract, Sketch, and Zeplin.

User testing is also a very important role of a designer. I’ve done a lot of in-person testing (providing participants with working guitars/pianos etc) as well as doing online testing. Writing appropriate questions to get the results you are looking for and writing up the results is a craft in itself. Both of those things are overlooked but also crucial to the development and design of a good product. The goal of user testing is not to prove your design is perfect, but to find out how the users are using it and create the best user

“Lauren is a great colleague with a strong impact on the company culture. She will make sure that everybody feels welcomed and included. She is a driving force behind a variety of company initiatives. Lauren will always help you out, being it volunteering to user-test new solutions, providing professional design feedback or making sure the internal documents are always on-brand. She is a great professional with a strong desire to learn. She is always eager to widen her expertise. I have seen her grow from a Web Designer into a competent Product Designer. She is a joy to work with, highly recommended!”
